Face to Face classes

NowTried and tested, if you're after classroom community we have it at Lower Broadheath village hall by the bucket full. A well-established group that has played host to many artists of hugely ranging experience and specialities. A well-ventilated space with parking and kitchen facilities it is comfortable and easy for all, including disability access. However, it's the support and village atmosphere that brings extra joy to this group. Annually joining in the village garden show for our exhibition and many of our students exhibiting in the community shop we keep up with village life. Many of our students come from other areas to this class but join the village for its convenience and inclusive setting. During the pre-Covid days, this class could become oversubscribed very quickly.

This class can get bigger at times and because of this Alina is at hand to help out too. We are hands-on during this class rather than using technology, apart from a projector and screen for videos. The bonus here is that you have your tea made for you and you even get biscuits, a chance to have a mill around and a chat is always important.

Classes are much the same structure whether you are on zoom or face to face, though every class has its character. Students are challenged every term with three projects which they are invited to take up. Students are welcome to interpret challenges any way they choose or continue with their projects. At the beginning of every class, 20 minutes is dedicated to improving an element of our understanding of art. So far we have used this time to improve figure drawing and to learn about art history.

For complete beginners, we have a specific course, which again they are invited to follow, rather than directed to! Classes are always student-focused and the aim is always to help you find your creative voice and give you the skills to express it.

At Lower Broadheath we have the unique requirement to disinfect and put away tables before leaving the building, there is often lots to do. As a community, everyone is asked to do whatever they can to help clean up and close up.
