Zoom classes

Zoom classes were the surprise of lockdown for us, as we adapted to give our students the creative encouragement they needed. As we offered classes students joined us from further away than our classes had reached before, mums with newborn babies wrestled high chairs and paintbrushes and we reached into homes where people were unable to get out. We discovered that people could and wanted to paint even when circumstances weren't conducive! We also found that working studio to studio had the bonus of not having to drag all our kit around, wet paintings were safe and no more travelling for miles in the car.

There's no doubt that entering a class via zoom can be a little bit daunting. We have taken the plunge ourselves and have experienced the nervous waiting room countdown and trouble with codes. The joy of our classes is that we genuinely have all been there! We have all learned this ‘zoom’ thing together and patiently waited whilst people have and are, sorting out the volume. there are acres of patience, interest in each other's work, community and fun. With a screen full of like-minded people there is the opportunity for discussion, should you want it, and the opportunity to switch us all off and paint in your own space until you need to ask a question if that's what you feel like that week. It's enormously flexible for anyone, anywhere and that's the joy of it.

Using screen share, YouTube, photoshop and the studio camera Jack can easily and swiftly adapt to give guidance with the same level of attention, individually, as in a classroom setting. There is the same basic class structure, though the character of every class is slightly different. Every class has 20 minutes of structured learning at the beginning. We have covered figure drawing and art history as topics during this time. After that students are given three challenges per term which they are entirely free to do, or not do, in any way they are inspired to respond.

For complete beginners, there is a specific structure of exercises but again this is optional and no one is ever made to do something! All work is a process of what you wish to explore and how best to grow creatively. Whether you are in a face to face class or joining our fun-filled zoom groups it remains the same.

All students that are part of the community are invited to join the community WhatsApp group where the creativity continues throughout the week.

If you are interested in joining a class please contact us via text, e-mail, all the normal social media sites or press the WhatsApp button below.

We look forward to welcoming you.
